SAP HANA Full Use and Tableau Server Architecture

6 mois

Context

Business intelligence redesign project

Challenge

Study a possible architecture with SAP HANA to replace the datawarehouse under MSSQL 2005 while keeping the data model, the ETL Datastage interface heritage and Cognos reports.

Technologies used

DBMS: SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12 Full Use • ETL: IBM Infosphere Datastage PX 9.1 • Reporting: IBM Cognos V10.2 On Premise • Dataviz: Tableau Server 10.3 • Cloud AWS

Methodology and implementation

This ambitious project aimed to modernize the business intelligence infrastructure by migrating to SAP HANA while preserving existing investments.

The target architecture had to meet several constraints: - Coexistence with existing SAP BW instances - Progressive migration without service interruption - Performance optimization compared to the old MSSQL 2005 system - Replacement of Cognos with Tableau Server on AWS for reporting

The POC validated the technical feasibility and measured performance gains.

Results

POC completed: SAP HANA On Premise co-located on SAP BW instances with license extension. Integration driven by Datastage as scheduler and HANA stored procedures to take advantage of database performance for data loading. Tableau Server 10.2 on AWS was chosen for reporting to replace Cognos.
